Project Description
The Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) Cranes are used in many ports worldwide for the lifting and transportation of 20 and 40 feet containers.
During the operation of the RMG cranes, fatigue loads are obtained which can initiate cracking of the material.
SAFE-Structures has been requested to assess the strength of the existing Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes (RMG) and propose structural reinforcements that will increase their operational life.
The strength assessment of the RMG Cranes has been performed at the Gantry and Trolley Gantry Bogies as shown in the attached figures.
For this analysis, 3D calculation models have been prepared which are consisted of shell and solid elements.
The yield and fatigue assessment of the RMG cranes has been performed in accordance with the FEM 1.001 Standard.
